Who for President?

Friday, May 2nd, 2008

I have been trying my best to spread word about Ron Paul. I really think that he can be a very good President for our troubled country.

However, lets face facts. barring a couple of well placed assassins bullets in the leading Republican runners, it is not going to happen. This is hard for me to admit, mind you, so please don’t go off on one of those rants anti-Paul folks tend to favor.

So who, then, should I put my vote to for the next President?

Hillary Clinton (Dem)? Nay, I say, as a bigger hypocrite I have seldom seen. She actually came to my little corner of the world and had I actually cared enough about it, I would have gone down to the rally just to start some shit. But that is past and I care little of her fate.

McCain or Huckabee (Rep)? Sadly, I hate both of them. Neither of them are, in my humble opinion, smart or display any definite leadership. Chowder-heads, the both of them.

Obama? Probably, as I cannot see any other logical choice. He is smart, charismatic, seems a natural leader, and is honest more than anything.

Yea, I’ll probably vote for Obama.

Sidenote: I just read my voters pamphlet, and I can feel a lot better voting for Obama now. In the descriptions of the candidates and their little blurbs about themselves, Clinton said that she has plans about fixing things. Not what she would do, but that she has plans (she said this not less than 6 times). Obama, on the other page (ha ha), laid out what he is going to do plain as day. He is going to do these things, in this way. Not once did the word ‘plan’ come into the description. So yea, Obama it is.

Diminishing Hopes

Saturday, February 9th, 2008

After viewing the caucuses results so far, I must say that I am not very happy with where my choice, Ron Paul, is standing.

Garnering less then 15% at any given race, it seems that either the campaign managers are lousy at their jobs, or that the voters of this great country are blind. Or possibly both if the last person I talked politics with is any indication.

The Republican nomination has dwindled from 9 to now 3 candidates, Paul among them, but he is still performing only marginally better then the start. Huckabee and McCain are duking it out for the lead but I wouldn’t trust them to run a bake sale, much less our country. And as far as the Democrats are concerned, I really hope that Obama wins if Paul is out of the running, but I am still going to be working to see Paul in office.

For those few who know me, you know I hate politics so you can understand the gravity of the above statement. I will seriously do what I can to help out. Who knows, perhaps another Republican candidate will drop and the other will come ill or something. Then it will only be Paul to take the nomination.

Until that hope comes about, I’ll just keep to good old fashion campaigning.

Ron Paul for President

Sunday, February 3rd, 2008

Ron PaulYou know why I like Ron Paul?

Well, I’ll tell you why. Because he does not scare the shit out of me whenever he speaks. Because he is a likable guy (so likable that I just donated another $5, which isn’t a lot but its the only time I ever gave money to a candidate).

Because when I checked out his track record, which is freely available on his site as well as other sources, he actually seemed like a politician who takes his job seriously. Who actually works for the betterment of the USA, not just to make a buck from his office.

And because when compared to the other candidates that are bidding for the presidency, I see him telling America as a whole about the things that have to be done to fix this country, not about how he alone would fix them if he were president, but what any president has to do. To me he is saying “Here is what has to be done and if no one else is going to do it then I will”.

Now I am not to most politically minded person on the planet. I, in point of fact, hate politics with the fire of a thousand suns. So if you have a problem with what I say or what I believe (*cough* personallimburgbaby *cough*) then feel free to correct me on it.

The sad state of our country

Friday, September 28th, 2007

Its quite sad. 10 years ago we seemed to be quite a decent country. But nowadays more and more news articles come out describing events and happenings that I would not have believed possible in this country.

Heres a quick list just from today:

  • 1000 people issue a citizens arrest on Pres. Bush
  • A high school girl has her wrist broken by a security guard for dropping cake
  • Bush caught lying about 9/11 (with video)
  • Chicago cops are investigated for 5000 incidents of abuse
  • High school student suspended for wearing John Edwards tshirt.
  • Religious group get $100k to improve science with creationism views

The headlines were enough to make me gag, but actually reading the articles made me rather revolted. I am not even sure, from reading the articles among other sources, what the hell is even going on in this country. All I can see is a lot of our countries allies are pissed and our enemies are laughing. Our citizens are angered and our politicians are deaf.

About the only good thing to come out of the news today s a rather good article from the Consumerist about how to properly write to congress and say your piece.

I think I’ll do just that now. Here is the Consumerist article if you are interested.

This was a great read that asks a lot of questions that many Americans are asking themselves. Read it now.

Ten Things You Didn’t Know About Barack Obama

Friday, March 16th, 2007

I came across this while cruising Digg. Since I’m a Barak Obama fan, I though it would make a nice addition here.

Originally posted on USNews.com

Compiled by the U.S. News library staff.

1. Obama was born on Aug. 4, 1961, in Honolulu. His first name, Barack, means “blessed” in Swahili and was also his Kenyan father’s name.

2. He says he hasn’t liked ice cream since working at Baskin-Robbins as a teenager.

3. His childhood nickname was Barry.

4. Obama is the third African-American senator since Reconstruction.

5. He married Michelle Robinson, also a Harvard Law School graduate, who supervised him while he was working as a summer associate in a Chicago law firm. They have two daughters, Malia and Sasha.

6. As an Illinois state senator, he sponsored a bill to require the police to videotape interrogations in capital crime cases. Illinois was the first state to do this.

7. A school in his father’s hometown near Lake Victoria in Kenya has been renamed the Senator Barack Obama Secondary School.

8. He loves playing Scrabble.

9. Obama and his wife bought a house on Chicago’s South Side in June 2005 for $1.65 million. It has four fireplaces.

10. His heroes are Martin Luther King Jr., Mohandas Gandhi, Pablo Picasso, and John Coltrane.

I’m not sure what the point is about saying how much he spent on a house (and the number of fireplaces), but other than that I thought it was an interesting list.

Conneticut Bill Would Force MySpace Age Check

Thursday, March 8th, 2007

Its is simply astounding that people like this actually get elected to office. As a web developer, I know for a fact that any system that checks age on the internet can be fooled. Unless MySpace goes to the users house and asks to see their ID, there is no way that this system will be effective at all.

Full story: The Battalion - Conn. Bill Would Force MySpace Age Check

Although it is important to check ages, I think that the case they are citing as the main motivator for this bill is a little weak. I really hope that doesn’t turn MySpace into a crap site with 10000 checks on it. No one will use it after that (remember Napster?). But it is still likely that this one case will be the one apple that spoils the bunch.

Companies to pull ads from Coulters Web site

Tuesday, March 6th, 2007

I find this really funny and a very good lesson for Coulter. Her mouthing off is now going to hit her in her bank account as her derogatory comments have disenchanted advertises on her site who are now pulling off their ads. Some of them are quite large (such as Sallie Mae) and, since her site receives thousands of hits just from her haters alone, will seriously reduce ad revenue.

The full story about this can be found here:

Companies to pull ads from Coulters Web site - CNN.com

I would say that the third party company in charge of placing the ads should dump her site altogether. If you take away her money (at least some of it) it could encourage her to stop being such a spiteful skank.

In other Ann related crap, Henry Rollins made quite a persuasive offer to Ann, which can be viewed on YouTube.

Bill before congress to abolish taxes

Saturday, February 10th, 2007

TX House Member Ron Paul [R] and FL House Member Jeff Miller [R] proposed on Feb 7th “to abolishing personal income, estate, and gift taxes and prohibiting the United States Government from engaging in business in competition with its citizens.”

H. J. Res. 23: Proposing an amendment the Constitution of the United States relative to abolishing taxes

Since the income tax as we know it is only about a centiry old (the 16th amendment was proposed in 1909 ratified in 1913), this bill will basically be putting everyone back to the old (and I do mean old) tax system where Federal taxes are 2% of your income, regardless of dependants, student status, or income (the rich often get massive tax breaks). This would be really great since I really dont like paying half of my earnings to the government. Contact you local state rep so push this bill.

Obama launches presidential bid

Saturday, February 10th, 2007

Barack Obama officially threw his hat into the presidential ring in an announcement today. This is a huge deal as he is not only the most qualified (in my opinion) to lead us, but also because he has not been in Washington long enough to succumb to the political corruption that is plagueing this country. The link below is the full arcticle about his annoucement:

BBC NEWS | Americas | Obama launches presidential bid

If I were anywhere near Illinois I would have gone out there to see him personally. I guess Ill just have to wait until he stops in Oregon before I can see him talk in person.
